Rookies Sports

(Boys and Girls ages 3-5)

Preschoolers are introduced to the basic skills of each sport in a fun, non-competitive environment.  Rookie Sports are an excellent way to enhance motor development and social skills through sports. Parent participation is required. All learning takes place with age appropriate equipment.

INSTRUCTIONAL YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUES

(K-3rd Grade)

This league is for boys and girls ages in grades K-3.  Children will be placed in divisions according to age and enrollment. Kids will learn basic skills and drills of the game of basketball in a safe, fun environment.  All teams will practice one day during the week and play a game on Saturday. This is a seven week program. Price includes team shirt for ALL kids. (New this year: Each team has their own team color!)

Winter Session

Registration: Dec. 5 – Jan. 7, 2012

Season Begins January 16, 2012 (Seven Weeks)

Coaches Meeting: Thursday, January 12, 6:30 p.m.

Youth Cheerleading

(Ages 5-11)

 

Registration: December 5 – January 7, 2012

Dates: Season Begins January 18 (Six Weeks)

As part of the Youth Basketball program, the YMCA will again offer Youth Cheerleading for anyone between the ages of 6 and 11 years old. Cheer squads will practice on Wednesday evenings and cheer for their team on Saturday morning/afternoon. Basic skills, team building, and character development are emphasized in this program. 

 

Days: Wednesdays and Saturdays

Time: 5:30 pm

Cost: $25 Members / $40 Non Member

 

Jr. High Traveling Basketball League

(grades 6-8)

After a very successful 3nd season, the Fayette County YMCA will again be offering a traveling basketball league for jr. high school boys and girls to compete against area YMCA’s teams. Other teams include the Ross County YMCA, Pike County YMCA, and Clinton County YMCA.

Registration: November 20-December 24

Season begins the first of January.

Youth Volleyball

(Boys and Girls Boys and Girls Grades K-6)

Registration: Jan. 24th—February 26th, 2012

DATES: Mar. 8th—April 12th

Description: Volleyball has the action and excitement that all young people love. This program can be enjoyed by both boys and girls ages 6 years and older. Because the game is simple, safe and emphasizes alertness, rather than strength or height, it can be played by both the beginner and the adept athlete. Soft balls will be used for the younger age groups. Volunteer coaches needed.

Coaches Meeting: Mar. 1 @ 6:30 PM at the YMCA

Program Days: Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 / 6:30-7:30 PM

Youth Spring Soccer

(Boys and Girls K-5th Grade)

Registration: March 12 - April 10th, 2012

DATES: April 30 - June 9 

Description: TWO DAYS A WEEK! Your child will have great time while learning soccer skills that will last a lifetime. Each team will practice one time during the week and play a game on Saturdays. These hour long sessions consists of skills, drills and games to help develop your child on the soccer field. This program also focuses on sportsmanship and as always, everyone plays and everyone wins! Volunteer coaches needed.

Coaches Meeting: April 23 @ 6:30 PM at the YMCA

Program Days: Practice Days TBD / Games will be held on Saturday Mornings at Gardner Park.

Speed and Agility Training (S.A.T.)

Get the Edge- YMCA Speed and Agility Training (S.A.T.)

Designed to help those athletes who need to sharpen their abilities or for those between sports. The S.A.T. class will focus on the following: Speed / Agility / Quick starts / Quick feet / Front / Back / Lateral Movements / Basic Cone / Ladder/Hurdle Drills / Cardiovascular Conditioning / Basic Plyometrics and Flexibility.  Lead by Jerrod Ralph, former McClain High School varsity basketball and baseball team captain and current YMCA Program Director.
